Technical Committee Supporting National Coordination for Food Systems

Chad's technical committee was established in 2021 to support national coordination of the consultations behind the country's food systems roadmap. It has continued to operate since, coordinating the national review of food systems transformation.

Institutional set-up and structure

Established by presidential order in 2021 and placed under the General Secretariat of the Presidency, the Committee is chaired by the Technical Advisor for Agriculture at the Presidency, with vice-presidencies held by the agriculture and livestock advisor at the Prime Minister's Office and the Director General of the Ministry of Agricultural Development. Its operating costs are met from the state budget.

Mandate and decision-making power

The Committee supports national coordination in preparing, conducting and implementing the dialogues required to formulate the roadmap setting the country's path towards sustainable food systems for the coming decade, and in accelerating progress towards the sustainable development goals.

The Committee is tasked with the following roles:

  • Agenda setting: advocacy and dialogue

  • Policy formulation and decision making: coordinating policy development; developing policies for consideration by the relevant authorities

Who is involved

  • Government: the Presidency; the Prime Minister's Office; agricultural development, including production technology and training; public health and national solidarity, through its nutrition and food technology directorate; and the national food quality control body

  • Civil society: one local non-governmental organisation is invited

The chair may call on any person with relevant expertise to take part in meetings.
